A Day in the Life – Learning, Community, and Growth

Every day brings opportunities for growth, connection, and excellence. Our carefully crafted timetable balances academic classes with moments for reflection, creativity, and friendship.

Here is what a typical day looks like on our vibrant campus.

Starting the Day - Responsibility from the First Bell - Without Bells!

Classes begin promptly at 8.40 am, but you will not hear bells at Santa Maria College. Instead, students are trusted to manage their own time, a practice that nurtures independence and personal responsibility. The day starts with Homeroom, where dedicated Homeroom teachers lead prayer, share important announcements, and build strong, caring relationships with their students.

Empowering Young Women Through a Structured Timetable

The timetable runs on a ten-day cycle, alternating between Week A and Week B. This approach ensures a balanced mix of subjects and activities. During Week A, Wednesday has a slightly different schedule, helping students develop flexibility and time management skills. It is a structure that not only supports academic learning but also empowers students to organise their dayan essential skill for life beyond school.

Time to Recharge - Recess, Lunch, and Connections

Morning recess (10.40 am to 11.10 am, or 10.20 am to 10.50 am on Week A Wednesdays) offers a chance to relax, share a snack, and connect with friends. After a busy morning, lunch (1.00 pm to 1.30 pm, or 1.10 pm to 1.40 pm on Week A Wednesdays) is a time to recharge. Across the campus. You will hear laughter, see friendships growing, and experience the warmth of a true community, a place where every student feels they belong.

Catholic Heritage and Pastoral Care - Nurturing the Whole Student

A key part of the weekly timetable is Pastoral Care Time (PCT), held every Wednesday in Week A. During this dedicated time, students engage in activities that promote personal growth, community service, and spiritual reflection. Led by homeroom teachers and house coordinators, PCT is a chance to nurture not only the mind but also the heart, living out the values of Hospitality, Compassion, Justice, Service, and Excellence.

Innovative Learning in Action

Learning here is more than textbooks and classrooms, it is about real-world experiences and creative thinking. With a commitment to innovative education, students are encouraged to solve challenges through hands-on projects and interdisciplinary programs like emPOWER. Modern, state-of-the-art facilities support this dynamic learning approach, giving students the tools and confidence to thrive in an ever-changing world.

The Final Bell (That You Won't Hear) - End of the Day

The school day ends at 3.10 pm for our Years 5 and 6 students, and at 3.20 pm for Years 7 to 12 students. But for many, the learning and fun continue after school. From sports and music to service clubs and leadership programs, co-curricular activities provide opportunities to explore passions, develop talents, and build friendships that last a lifetime.

Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders

Through this unique daily rhythm, students gain more than an education, they gain confidence, character, and a strong sense of purpose. Every day is an opportunity to lead with courage and compassion, living out the values that will guide them through life.
