A Day of Team Spirit and New Skills – Year 5 Summer Games
Our Year 5 students took to the field at the 2024 Summer Games last Friday, buzzing with excitement and ready to give it their all. From tee ball to AFL, Newcombe ball, and cricket, they jumped into each sport with loads of enthusiasm.
Learning New Skills and Gaining Confidence
The day started with skill sessions, where students got hands-on practice in each sport. With a mix of coaching and friendly tips from teachers, they learned new techniques, whether it was nailing the perfect swing in tee ball, improving their AFL kicks, or mastering a serve in Newcombe ball. By the end of the sessions, there was a noticeable boost in confidence as students felt ready to jump into the games and show what they had learned.
Bringing Their Best to the Game
Then came the real test – game time! Divided into teams, the students put their new skills to the test in spirited matches. Whether it was running bases in tee ball or scoring goals in AFL, there was laughter, high-fiving, and genuine excitement in every match as each team played their hearts out while cheering on their friends.
Melissa Laurino, Physical Education Teacher, shared,”It was amazing to see the girls trying new sports or having the opportunity to show off the skills they already had in the different sports on the day. It was great to see the girls working together and supporting and cheering on the other students in their group and the students from opposition schools. The girls gave 100% to each activity, even towards the end of the day when they may have started to get a bit tired.”
The Year 5 Summer Games was a fantastic day full of new skills, friendships, and memories. We are already looking forward to next year’s event!
