A Mother’s Day Market Showcasing Student Entrepreneurs in Action

Year 8 student Isabel from Little Lux Co

Our Women in Business (WIB) students brought energy and creativity to the Plaza this week as they hosted their much-anticipated Mother’s Day Market.

The market was a vibrant celebration of entrepreneurial spirit, with students spending Term 1 developing their ideas, refining products, and designing eye-catching displays. The result was a dynamic showcase of talent, initiative, and hard work.

Something for Everyone

More than 20 stalls offered a diverse range of thoughtful, handmade gifts. From scented candles and ocean-inspired soaps to baked treats, brownie mixes, beaded accessories, keep cups, cacti, colourful keyrings and more, there was something for everyone.

Throughout the day, the Plaza buzzed with activity as students and staff explored the stalls, connected with the stallholders, and supported their peers. The atmosphere was warm, lively, and full of pride.

First Time Entrepreneurs

For many students, this was their first experience running a market stall—and they rose to the occasion with confidence. From pitching their products to managing sales, they embraced every aspect of the experience. Several businesses even sold out, a fantastic achievement and a clear reflection of both demand and quality. In addition, each business is committed to donating 5% of its takings to our Winter Appeal, reinforcing the importance of giving back alongside building its enterprise skills.

Emma (Year 9) from Crochet Co is in her second year of Women in Business and shared, “The atmosphere of such a vibrant and busy place is quite an exciting experience. The smiles on all the girls’ faces were contagious. The Mother’s Day market ran smoothly, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be involved in an amazing environment. Thank you to all the staff and Students involved to make this possible.

Imogen (Year 7) from Seaside Soaps said, “I loved seeing everyone’s unique products on display, it all looked so professional and amazing! It felt so good to be running my own business professionally; it gave me so much confidence to see people smiling and walking around with things I’ve made! I would 100% do this again, it’s given me so many people and life skills!

Maisie (Year 7) from Maisie’s Blooms on Canvas, said, “I really enjoyed talking to different people and giving them their products!”

Thalia (Year 7 ) from Keychain Kraft shared, “The thing I enjoyed the most was the feeling of excitement to sell my handmade creations as a gift for students, teachers or mums.”

Real World Learning

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, many in our community will be receiving beautifully crafted, one-of-a-kind gifts. Each purchase represents not only a thoughtful gesture, but also meaningful support for our students as they grow their skills and confidence.

From concept to customer, the market offered a real-world learning experience. Through the Women in Business co-curricular program, students are building practical skills in creativity, communication, and enterprise—skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

We are incredibly proud of our WIB students and all they achieved.

Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering such a successful event. We look forward to the next WIB market.
