A Night to Shine – Years 5 & 6 Open Night
There is something truly special about watching students take the lead in their learning – and that is exactly what happens at our Years 5 and 6 Open Night.
Held after hours at Santa Maria College, this event is a chance to view work on display. It is a joyful celebration where our Years 5 and 6 students proudly welcome their families into their classrooms and learning spaces, taking them on a tour of their academic and personal growth.
Student-Led and Full of Heart
What sets Open Night apart is that the girls are in charge. They guide their families through their learning journey, sharing their projects, explaining the thinking behind their work, and sometimes even inviting them to take part in hands-on activities, games, or challenges.
It is about progress, and the confidence that comes from being able to reflect on your learning and talk about it with pride.
Celebrating Growth and Connection
Yes, we celebrate the assignments, the art, and the achievements, but just as importantly, we celebrate the students themselves.
Open Night is a chance to:
Reflect on how far students have come since the start of the year
Acknowledge their growing independence and curiosity
Showcase their communication and leadership skills
Strengthen connections between families, staff, and our broader school community
As Acting Dean of Students, Kelly Wiggett, puts it: “It’s not just about the work, it’s about reflecting on how they have grown in skills and confidence and celebrating who the students are as unique individuals.”

A Favourite on the Calendar
Among the many special moments in the school year, the Years 5 and 6 Open Night is one of our favourites. There is something wonderful about seeing students light up as they take on the role of teacher, tour guide, and storyteller, sharing not just what they have done, but who they are becoming.
This kind of event reminds us of the power of learning when it is personal, purposeful, and shared with those we love.
