A Week of Language, Learning and Connection

It has been an exciting week for our Years 10 and 11 Italian and French students, full of collaboration, culture and celebration.

Italian Afternoon with CBC Fremantle

The week kicked off with a lively Italian afternoon shared between our Years 10 and 11 students and their peers from CBC Fremantle. The event was all about connection, practising Italian in a relaxed environment while having fun and making new friends.

The afternoon included games like Scattegories and Spot It (all in Italian, of course!), delicious afternoon tea and plenty of laughs. Icebreaker activities encouraged students to use their conversational Italian outside the classroom, helping to build confidence and fluency.

Some of the students shared their experience with us below.

“The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, making it easy to start conversations in Italian and even share casual chats outside the classroom setting. This experience was not only enjoyable but also highly rewarding, as it strengthened our language skills and boosted our confidence in communicating in Italian beyond the classroom.” Nitya, Year 11

“The Italian afternoon with CBC was a fun and enriching experience for our students. It was a wonderful opportunity to apply our Italian skills in real-life conversations and learn from each other. Everyone came together to enjoy activities and games, making the afternoon both interactive and memorable. A highlight was the opening ‘getting to know you’ activity, where we used our introductions in Italian and even picked up new phrases along the way. Overall, it was a fantastic way to connect with peers, strengthen friendships, and deepen our practical language skills.” Georgia, Year 10

“The Italian afternoon was a wonderful opportunity to not only meet new people and form new connections but do so in a relaxed environment where we could practise our Italian speaking skills and test our knowledge. I personally enjoyed the first competition, where each table had to place a broken-up recount of a day outing in chronological order, using our combined understanding of the language (and competitiveness!) to win the game. For me, it was definitely a highlight of this year in Italian!” Gabrielle, Year 11

Celebrating a Language Milestone

Later in the week, our Year 11.5 French and Italian students were recognised for their dedication to language learning with a special badge presentation by Deputy Principal, Teaching & Learning, Jayne Kingwell.

This milestone marked a significant step in their language-learning journey—one that reflects their ongoing commitment to learning not just the words, but the culture and heart behind the language.

Congratulations to all students involved. Your efforts are paving the way for global opportunities, deep understanding and lifelong skills. Bravo!
