All Smiles at IGSSA Cross Country

Year 7 runners moments before their race.

Last Friday may have presented a severe weather warning, but no forecast for thunder meant that the IGSSA Cross Country event went full steam ahead!

The cross country squad made up of 75 students from Years 7 – 12, headed up to Alderbury Reserve to take part in the event, hosted this year, by St Hilda’s.

The course was undoubtedly a tough one, but the girls put their hard work into action, with many running a personal best and improving their placing from last year.

All those cold, early morning starts certainly paid dividends out on the track. We had some outstanding individual results, with five girls placing in the top ten for their divisions:

Year 8 Division:

Sienna Pitt – sixth place
Chloe Dartnall – tenth place

Year 10 Division:

Billie Mincham – second place

Years 11 & 12 Division:

Sophie Farrell – seventh place
Madeleine Armstrong – eighth place

Not to mention, the reserves on the day who were incredible ambassadors for the College, warming up with the team, cheering on their teammates, and helping out where they could. The Santa spirit was stronger than it’s ever been!

Years 11 & 12 runners with Principal, Jennifer Oaten, who gave the girls some words of encouragement before their final race representing Santa Maria.

Overall, the Santa Maria team placed a respectable fifth, only 44 points behind St Mary’s. We are incredibly proud of the entire team’s effort not just on this day, but throughout the entire cross country season.

We would like to extend a massive thank you to our staff and coaches for supporting the team. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and passion are unmatched.

And of course, a massive congratulations goes to the Santa Maria squad, who completed what was a brilliant season.

Bring on 2023!
