Like us, you were probably struck by the angelic voices of soloists Kitriana Lim and Gabrielle Hardwick, in the choir at Opening Mass on Tuesday night. We asked the girls about their singing.

KITRIANA LIM

How long have you been singing?
I’ve been singing since I was in pre-primary but started singing lessons in Year 5.

Which music groups are you involved in?
I’m involved in Guitar Ensemble, Choir since Year 5, and our music class band where I mainly play the guitar.

Did you enjoy singing at the Mass in front of all those people?
Definitely, performing in the choir is always a highlight and not to mention, we were all very proud of our performance, as it was one of the best we’ve ever done.

How did you overcome your nerves?
I was initially quite nervous, but once I started singing, I had something else to focus on and the nerves went away.

What is your favourite genre of music?
I listen to a lot of folk/indie rock and pop music, but it all depends on my mood.

Do you sing outside school?
Yes, music is my passion and I play music at home whenever I can. Last year, I started recording some covers of songs and publishing them on a website called SoundCloud.

 

GABRIELLE HARDWICK

How long have you been singing?
I’ve been singing since primary school.

Which music groups are you involved in?
I am in the Guitar Ensemble, Choir and the music class band. I’ve been involved in these ever since they were available to me at the College. Sometimes I will sing in the Swing Band too, which is really fun.

Did you enjoy singing at the Mass in front of all those people?
Yes, performing in the choir is always something I look forward to doing.

How did you overcome your nerves?
I wasn’t too nervous because I was surrounded by all my friends. But I usually just focus on how good everyone else sounds and it helps me forget that people are watching me!

What is your favourite genre of music?
I love folk, indie rock and pop music. I listen to a lot of local musicians.

Do you sing outside school?
Yes, I have vocal coaching outside of school and I play music with my friends and family.
