Launched in 2021, the Santa Maria College Old Girls’ Association and Santa Maria College are delighted to offer once again the ‘Project of Mercy’ grant of up to $5,000.

This grant enables a Santa Maria College alumni to undertake a planned project, of the applicant’s choosing, with the primary focus of helping others less fortunate within the Western Australian community.

The nature of the grant reflects the philanthropic mission of the Association, in line with Santa Maria College’s Mercy values. It provides an opportunity for the OGA to make a positive impact in the broader community. All Western Australian-based alumni are encouraged to apply.

2022 recipients Courtney D’Mello (2008) and Sofia Basso Betancourt (2019) share how the grant has helped their organisations.

Courtney used the grant for the Grief and Bereavement Support Group at the Motor Neurone Disease Association of Western Australia (MNDAWA). “At MNDAWA, one of the services offered is a Grief and Bereavement Support Group. This group is facilitated by a specialised and experienced counsellor who helps guide families impacted by MND to understand their grieving process, manage their unique grief, and find their strength. The Project of Mercy grant has funded this program for six months, providing invaluable support to many of our families going through this difficult journey.”

Sofia is involved with the WA Justice Association. “Our organisation does not currently have a stable flow of income, which means contributions of any kind assists us in championing criminal justice reform in WA. The grant enables us to create resources to distribute on behalf of WAJA, support our future community outreach events and allow us to have a reserve of funds to sustain the organisation.”

The grant is now open for 2023. For more information and to apply, click here
