Big Smiles, Bright Colours & Bonding Moments at House Day

There’s something special about House Day at Santa Maria College, the kind of day where laughter rings out across the campus, faces light up with excitement, and girls come together in the true spirit of community.

This week, students and staff celebrated our Annual House Day, and from the get-go, it was all energy, colour and connection. Whether you were new to your House or have been repping your colours for years, the day offered something for everyone.

What Each House Got Up To

Every House brought their own flair to the day’s activities, and it was clear that creativity, and a healthy dose of silliness, was encouraged!

  • Byrne channelled Easter cheer with bonnet-making and a classic egg and spoon race.
  • Corbett girls got competitive with high-energy “Minute to Win It” games.
  • de la hoyde kept things chilled with a relaxing ‘paint and snack’ session.
  • Dillon enjoyed a challenging but fun ‘Easter Egg Escape Room Hunt’ activity
  • Frayne got artsy and active with dodgeball and banner painting, messy, bold and brilliant.
  • Kelly created colourful friendship bracelets while chatting and bonding across year levels.
  • O’Donnell turned the day into a scavenger adventure with their Amazing Race challenge.
  • O’Reilly transformed newspapers into runway-ready bunny costumes, quirky and fabulous.

“My favourite part of House Day was the Easter egg hunt. We each got to find one Easter egg, and then eat it!” Charli, Year 7, Frayne

Coming Together Over Lunch

After all the action, each House came together for a shared lunch, an easy, relaxed chance to chat, laugh and recharge. It’s often these moments, sitting together and sharing stories, that leave the biggest impact.

Why House Day Matters

Sure, the games and dress-ups are a blast, but House Day is really about connection. It’s a chance to feel part of something bigger, spend time with your House mates, and enjoy being together just for the fun of it.

Tom Kendall, Dillon House Coordinator shared, “Our Easter Egg escape room hunt didn’t quite go to plan, but the way everyone in the House came together was a highlight for me.”

Throughout the day, students lived out our Mercy values of Hospitality and Compassion, welcoming others, encouraging their peers and creating a space where everyone felt included.

It was hard to walk through the courtyard without seeing someone mid-laugh or sporting House colours with pride.

That’s the kind of energy that sticks with you throughout the year.
