Blubber Gloves!
Year 5 students visited the Super Lab today to conduct an investigation into how effective blubber is for staying warm. The girls had to put both hands into ice-cold water. One hand was then covered in a blubber glove lined with petroleum jelly; the other hand was uncovered. It was a cool experiment that had some chilling results.Â
I can’t believe that blubber actually makes things warmer. The water was at 1c but the blubber globe was super warm. Why can’t humans have this adaptation? Melinda Gotsis, 5.5
The temperature of my non-blubber hand got down to 10C. I couldn’t feel it when I slapped my hand. My blubber glove hand felt normal. Blubber keeps your hand really warm! Jayde Veverka, 5.5
One hand is so red! It was way too cold for my normal hand. Blubber is good insulation. This was really fun. Ruby Catalini, 5.3
It was a little bit cold in the blubbered glove but not as cold as without the glove. I only lasted 20 seconds without the glove. It was really icy. Alicia Sharpe, 5.3
What A Term! So Many Opportunities – Jennifer Oaten
As I look back on the past nine weeks, I am so grateful for who we are as a community and what we have achieved. Through the dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm of our students, we have established new connections, immersed ourselves in opportunities and worked through challenges.
