Artist In Resident Panels

Earlier in the year Artist in Resident, Andrew Fraser, worked with Years 8, 9 and 10 girls to produce panels using a technique with spray paints and stencils.
These panel have now been installed outside the Santa Maria Uniform shop and look amazing!

Why should we bother trying to make a difference?

Recently, a student asked me about why they should bother trying to make a difference. Why should they be the one to use less plastic, or recycle, or plant a tree?
Eco Sisters is about educating our students to be environmentally responsible.

Languages Cultural Day

This year’s Languages Cultural Day was a huge success, with a large number of activities organised giving girls the opportunity to celebrate different cultures from around the world.

Aimee Dances in Canberra

Congratulations to Aimee Kunnen who was chosen as a part of a collaboration between C03: Youth, WA’s Flagship Contemporary Dance Company, and Quantum Leap – a part of QL2 Dance Inc.  

Dolphin Watch

Dolphin Watch 2017 has well and truly started at Santa Maria College. Joselyn Juraszek from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Visitor Attractions was invited to the College on Tuesday evening to chat to our ever-growing group of Mini Ladies in Lab Coats.

One of the strengths of the College is our strong House system. All large schools need smaller places where students feel special. This occurs in Year groups and Homeroom groups, and to a very large extent within the eight Houses.

Brain Bee Challenge

On Monday 25 July, myself and five others travelled to the University of Western Australia to compete in the state finals for the Brain Bee Challenge. This is a national neuroscience competition for Year 10 students. We had already completed Round 1 and were chosen to advance to Round 2 based on the scores we had achieved earlier.

Students Teach Students

Our Year 12 Outdoor Education class had a great time teaching Mrs Ryan’s Year 5 class about some environmental issues in our world today.

Congratulations to the staff and students who took part in the Canberra Tour during the holidays. There were two Year groups that took part in this tour. The Year 9 students were under the leadership of staff member Andrea Fitzpatrick and the Year 10 students had Tyra White as their leader.

An Enthusiastic Start to Term 3

College Staff have begun Term 3 with great positivity and enthusiasm. A professional Learning Day was conducted on Monday 17 July, where a number of important opportunities to share and learn were provided. The day began with Mass conducted by Father Hugh Galloway where staff celebrated the start of Semester 2 as a faith community.
