Celebrating Grandparents & Grandfriends
Grandparents hold a unique and cherished place in the hearts of their grandchildren. Their wisdom, patience, and unconditional love create a foundation of security and warmth that profoundly shapes a child’s development. The relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is one of life’s greatest gifts, fostering a deep sense of belonging and continuity across generations. This special bond was beautifully celebrated at Santa Maria College’s Grandparents Morning, where students and their beloved grandparents came together to honour this timeless connection.
The morning began with eager anticipation as grandparents arrived at the College, making their way directly to the students’ classrooms. The girls, beaming with pride, were thrilled to showcase their hard work -projects, assignments, and artwork that reflected their learning journey. Classrooms were filled with joy as students shared their accomplishments, with grandparents offering words of praise and encouragement that will resonate for years to come.
Following the classroom visits, everyone gathered in the Chapel for a special liturgy, a reflective and heartwarming ceremony. This year, the liturgy took on an even more personal touch as students shared heartfelt messages about what they love most about their grandparents. These touching tributes highlighted the unique and irreplaceable role that grandparents play in their lives. The liturgy culminated with a beautiful performance by the Year 6 Choir, who sang Bruno Mars’ ‘Count on Me,’ leaving not a dry eye in the room.
The morning concluded with a relaxed and joyful morning tea shared between the Year 6 students and their grandparents. As they enjoyed their refreshments, grandparents reminisced about their own school days, marvelling at the differences and similarities in education across generations. Laughter, love, and a deep sense of connection filled the air, making this gathering a day to remember.
Joanna Ryan, Dean of Years 5 & 6, reflected on the significance of the event, saying, “Grandparents Morning is a day filled with pride, joy, and so much love. Seeing the bond between our students and their grandparents is truly heartwarming.”
Grandparents Morning celebrates the invaluable role grandparents play in our lives. Their wisdom, love, and support form a cornerstone of our students’ emotional and educational development, reminding us all that learning is a lifelong journey enriched by the stories and experiences shared across generations.
