Chanelle Jackson’s Journey to Performing Arts Perspectives
For Santa Maria College graduate Chanelle Jackson (Class of 2024), dance has been more than just movement. It’s been her passion, her creative outlet, and a big part of her identity. That passion led her to the prestigious Performing Arts Perspectives, an event that celebrates Western Australia’s most talented Year 12 Performing Arts students.
So, what was it like to audition, perform, and be part of such an incredible experience? Chanelle shares her journey.
A Fun and Supportive Audition Process
“The audition process was actually really enjoyable,” Chanelle says. “Everyone was so kind and supportive.”
Instead of feeling nervous, Chanelle found herself surrounded by encouragement and positivity. This was a chance to not only show off her skills, but to celebrate dance with others who loved it just as much.
Finding out she was selected was a moment she’ll never forget. “I was so happy and proud to be part of such a prestigious and meaningful event.” After years of dedication and hard work, it was an amazing feeling to see it all pay off.
Moments That Will Stay Forever
Chanelle shared that the best part of the event was the people. “The choreographers and dancers created such a lovely, safe environment to be in,” she says.
Some standout moments? Rehearsing in the stunning dance studio at His Majesty’s Theatre, performing the Set Solo with nine other incredible dancers, and receiving a certificate at the celebration ceremony. But what meant the most were the backstage laughs, the encouragement from everyone involved, and the friendships that made the experience unforgettable.
What’s Next?
Chanelle’s dance journey isn’t over, far from it! “ATAR Dance helped me develop my choreographic skills, which I believe led to my teaching position at my dance studio,” she explains. “The course gave me a deeper understanding of the creative process and made me even more passionate about passing on what I’ve learned.”
Now studying a Bachelor of Psychology and a Bachelor of Commerce at UWA, Chanelle is balancing academics with her love for dance. “No matter where my academic journey takes me, dance will always be an integral part of my life and career.”
A Story to Inspire
Chanelle’s story is proof that passion, dedication, and the right support can take you far. She hopes her experience inspires other Santa Maria students to chase their dreams, whether in the performing arts or beyond.
We know this is just the beginning for Chanelle, and we can’t wait to see where her journey takes her next!
