Chief Astronomer Visits Year 5s
Richard Tonello is Chief Astronomer at the Perth Gravity Discovery Centre. Our Year 5s were excited to have him visit them this week.
Richard spoke to the girls about the solar system and the mysteries space scientists are slowly uncovering. His talk was particularly relevant as the girls are currently studying space in two of their learning areas. In Science, they are studying the solar system and they are coding a solar system in Digital Technologies.
Richard was a wealth of information and engaged the girls with his knowledge and explanations. He was very impressed with the level of knowledge the girls displayed and the quality of the questions they asked.
“I learnt that there are lots of different suns in our solar system and many more planets than we first thought,” said Caitlyn Drury
Olivia O’Neill learnt many things about the planets. “I was especially impressed when I learnt that Jupiter has lots of moons.”
“I was intrigued to learn that stars explode to make suns, I thought I knew a lot about the solar system, however, after Richard’s visit I know a lot more,” Hayley Leighton said.
What A Term! So Many Opportunities – Jennifer Oaten
As I look back on the past nine weeks, I am so grateful for who we are as a community and what we have achieved. Through the dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm of our students, we have established new connections, immersed ourselves in opportunities and worked through challenges.
