The Class of 1978 celebrated its 40 year reunion with a gathering at the college in July. As we gathered on the steps overlooking the famous ‘figure 8’ and enjoyed that amazing view we struggled to believe that 40 years had passed since we had been those excited, boisterous girls spending our final hours at Santa getting ready to take on the world. There were a few quizzical glances as our memories struggled to put a name to a familiar face but it wasn’t long before we felt that the 40 years since we’d left this place had melted away. For some, it had been longer than 40 years as quite a few girls left after Year 10 to go to Business College, take up apprenticeships or join the workforce. The chatter grew more animated as we had a wander around the school, visiting what had been the convent and the boarding school, the chapel where some of us had got married and then the newer buildings which are fabulous.
There was lots of reminiscing and storytelling of the good old days and wonderful sharing of our life journeys. And what a lot of living has happened over the last 40 years!
We enjoyed a fabulous couple of hours sharing a drink and some food and then many kicked on well into the night. The laughter and fun we shared in the company of old friends was very special and we look forward to gathering again – the promise has been made that we will get together again soon, and hopefully others who couldn’t make it on the night will be able to join in.
Thanks to Jacqui and the OGA for organising the event and to Helen Chaffer for taking the time to show us around the school.
Thank you to all the girls who made the time to come along, some travelling long distances to be there – looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
