Congratulations Jayde

Year 5 student, Jayde Veverka competed at the WA Little Athletics Combined Event Championships over the weekend and won the overall event for her age.

“We have to compete in an 800m 200m, 80m hurdles, shot put, and long jump. Each event has a different amount of points allocated to it and the winner is the athlete that gets the most points overall.”, Jayde said. Jayde earned 2060 points; 106 points clear of second place.

Jayde’s favourite event is the 200m. “I like the 200m the most, and I won that particular event. I came 2nd in shot put, 3rd in the 80m hurdles, 4th in the 800m, and 8th in the long jump.”

Jayde has been involved in Little Athletics for two years and is a member of the UWA Little Athletics Club.

We asked her about how she prepared for the competition. “I go to athletics training once a week and I compete every Saturday morning during Terms 1 and 4. I also do swimming, play water polo and hockey, which helps with my general fitness.”

Congratulations Jayde!
