Congratulations Lyla & Ruby: Rowing Championships
- June 24, 2021

Congratulations to Year 9 students Lyla Fievez and Ruby Hughes who competed in the 2021 SunSmart All Schools State Championships over the weekend.
Lyla won two gold medals competing in the Year 9 single scull and then teamed up with a Shenton College student in the Year 9 double scull. Ruby came second in the Year 9 single scull and won a gold in the mixed quad sculls.

Lyla has been rowing since October and rows for the Fremantle Rowing Club. “My favourite part about the sport is the social aspect and that by 7.00 am you have already done so much with your day and feel very accomplished,” Lyla said.
Ruby has also been rowing since October and rows for the Swan River Rowing Club. Ruby says, “I learnt to row at one of my club’s many camps. The community at Swanies is amazing, they support you and guide you throughout your rowing journey. Getting up at 4.45 am every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to go out in 5° weather isn’t always fun, but it is all worth it when you get to experience stunning sunrises lighting up the pristine water.”
