Dancers Showcase Their Talents

The annual Dance Showcase was a tremendous day with over 120 dances showcasing their talents to family and friends.

The day started with a warmup, led by the Year 12 Dancers on the Figure 8. This was followed by a dress rehearsal, where the dancers watched each other perform. After a quick lunch, there were three-afternoon performances for guests.

The showcase had a varied program, which included:

  • Commercial dance
  • Contemporary dance
  • Ballet
  • The Charleston
  • Bollywood
  • Jazz

‘Apricity’ the IGSSA dance film was also shown during the program.

Senior dance students contributed some outstanding choreography. Twelve wonderful drama students gave up their Saturday and took on technical roles and ushering, in order to help the performance run smoothly.

It was so wonderful to see how the dancers developed their performance skills and confidence throughout the day.

Here’s what some of the girls had to say.

Dance Day was a wonderful and exciting experience. I loved meeting new people in between performing my dances and practicing with my peers. Gemma Smart, Year 7

I loved performing at the Dance Showcase this year. After an unusual year due to the Covid-19 restrictions, it was so nice to be given the opportunity to dance in front of an audience. I also loved spending the day with the performing arts students. The Dance Showcase was a great opportunity to showcase all the amazing talent we have here at the College, and I loved being able to see so many other amazing girls perform. Angelique Abreu, Year 11

I loved performing in the Dance Showcase this year. It was such an amazing opportunity to perform, make new friends in other year groups, and have lots of fun backstage, as well as on stage. I really enjoyed working towards the performance this year as it helped boost my confidence and learn heaps of new skills from different people. Xavia Variyan, Year 8

Dance Showcase is a great way to show all the hard work and dedication that classes and co-curricular groups put into their dances. It’s a great way to meet new people in all different year groups and to showcase your talents. You learn everyone has their own style and how they tell a story through dance. Brianna Rullo, Year 9
