Discovering Peace and Purpose – Praying the Rosary

With the reopening of our Chapel this term following Stage 1 of its renovations, we have welcomed students back into a renewed sacred space, one that continues to offer peace, reflection, and spiritual connection. It is the perfect time to share one of our cherished traditions: praying the Rosary.

Praying the Rosary offers us a gentle pause in the week, a moment to slow down, reflect, and connect through a practice that has been at the heart of Catholic life for centuries.

What is the Rosary?

The Rosary is a traditional form of prayer in the Catholic Church that invites quiet meditation on the life of Jesus and Mary. It is made up of a series of prayers, including the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. Each set of prayers, known as a decade, focuses on a special moment or ‘mystery’ in Jesus’ life, such as His birth, death or resurrection.

For those new to the practice, the repetition may feel unfamiliar at first, but many find it calming and centring. It’s about creating space for reflection, gratitude and connection with God.

Faith in Action – Students Leading the Rosary

The Rosary is an important expression of our Catholic identity. While not all students come from a Catholic background, all are given the opportunity to experience this tradition firsthand. Every Thursday morning, a different Year group or House is rostered to attend and lead the prayer in our Chapel.

It is a chance for students to grow in understanding and experience the power of communal prayer. For many, it is also a rare opportunity for quiet reflection amid the busyness of school life.

Student Reflections

We often hear from students who have found unexpected value in the experience. Some speak of the peacefulness it brings before a busy day. Others appreciate the chance to lead with their peers and participate in something meaningful together.

“I’m not Catholic, but I liked the calm atmosphere. It was a nice way to slow down and think.”

“It helped me feel connected to something bigger, and I liked being able to lead part of it with my House.”

Why the Rosary Still Matters Today

The Rosary has been part of Catholic life for over 800 years. We are proud to keep this beautiful tradition alive. It reminds us of the values we hold dear, faith, reflection, compassion, and community.

By praying the Rosary together, our students share in something that is both deeply spiritual and widely accessible, regardless of personal faith background.

Parents Welcome

We warmly invite parents to join us each Thursday morning at 8.15 am in the Chapel for Rosary. It is a special way to experience our College’s spiritual life, connect with the wider community, and start the day in a moment of peaceful reflection.
