Emily Selected for the WA State 16s AFL team

Congratulations to Emily Cleaver (Year 10) who has been selected for the WA State 16s AFL team. Emily has been playing AFL for two years now and last season her junior team went through the season undefeated and won the grand final. Following this, she was selected to join the WA State Academy for girls and has been training two to three times a week at Domain Stadium since October. She then played in a trial match and from this was selected into the WA State 16s AFL Team.

Emily currently plays for East Fremantle Women’s Football Club Youth Team where she trains four times a week, as well as being involved in the school AFL team. Emily and her family are big football fans and never miss an Eagles home game. She believes there is a wonderful opportunity for girls in football at the moment, with a very good pathway from juniors to AFLW.

Her first state match is this Saturday where she is will be playing in the Curtain Raiser at Optus Stadium prior to the Fremantle Dockers’ home game.
