Equipping Our Year 10 Students for the Future

At Santa Maria College, we believe in empowering our students to make informed decisions about their academic futures. The transition from Year 10 to Year 11 is a pivotal moment, and our Future10 Program is designed to guide students through this crucial phase with confidence and clarity.
Empowering Choices Through Comprehensive Guidance
The Future10 Program is more than just subject selection; it sets a foundation for future success. Our primary objectives are to provide students with comprehensive information about their academic pathways, develop essential academic skills, and offer personalised guidance through Course Counselling interviews. By engaging parents in this process, we ensure a collaborative approach to each student’s education, aligning with our values of community and support.

Resources and Guidance for Informed Decisions
We understand that making the right subject choices can be daunting. That is why we equip our students with a wealth of resources and expert guidance. The Learn Curriculum Handbook offers detailed insights into WACE pathways and Year 11 course offerings for 2025, while individual Course Recommendations sheets help students align their choices with their academic performance and career aspirations. Our Course Expo provides an interactive platform for students to explore their options, speak directly with teachers, and gain valuable insights from external representatives from universities and training organisations. Additionally, access to experienced course counsellors ensures students receive personalised advice tailored to their unique needs.

Inspiration from Past and Present Students
Hearing firsthand experiences from past and present students can be incredibly motivating. Our Past and Present student panel has shared invaluable insights, from real-life success stories to practical advice on managing workload and balancing extracurricular activities. These stories resonate with our Year 10 students, providing them with confidence and inspiration as they navigate their academic journeys.
Celebrating the Success of the Year 10 Course Expo
The Year 10 Course Expo evening was a resounding success, bringing students, parents, and educators together in a collaborative environment. The interactive displays and one-on-one discussions helped students and parents better understand the various subjects and pathways available. Representatives from universities and training organisations provided:
- Additional insights into future education and career opportunities.
- Emphasising the importance of making informed.
- Long-term decisions.
This event underscored our commitment to a student-centred approach, fostering a sense of partnership and shared responsibility in the decision-making process.
