Father Elio Working With Students, Parents and Staff

This week Santa Maria College welcomed Melbourne based Salesian priest, Father Elio Capra. Father Elio is our ‘priest in residence’ this week. He holds two master’s degrees and a doctorate in theology. He lectures in Liturgy and Sacramental Theology at Catholic Theological College and Australian Catholic University. As well as teaching at Salesian College Chadstone. Father Elio is also the Chair of the Australian Catechumenate Network and the Melbourne RCIA Forum.

Yesterday, Father Elio presented during our Staff Professional Learning Day. He led staff to consider the ministry of Jesus, Pope Francis’ call to mercy and the necessity of works of mercy in the 21st century. Staff finished the day with a greater understanding of Jesus’ message and what Pope Francis is asking of the Catholic Church. Father Elio encouraged staff to be a part of the new face of the Church.

Father Elio has a busy timetable this week. He will be working with Religious Education classes and other student groups as well as having morning tea and lunch with a cross-section of staff and students. Tonight, Father Elio is facilitating a parent forum from 6.30-8.00pm in the Staff Community Room.
