Fearless 5

Fearless 5 is a new program, run for the first time this term in the Year 5 classes. It has been created to help the girls understand that failure is normal and an important part of learning. They were given the challenge of building a car with no instructions, limited recyclable resources and some special tools from a Make.do kit. They are half way through and this is what some of them had to say about their project so far:

“It’s been fun to learn from doing a challenge. We have failed about 20 times trying to make wheels for our car, but we think we’ve finally figured it out. We’ve also learned how to bounce back after failing, because if we didn’t we wouldn’t have a car.” Amity Sweeting, Georgia Peacock and Molly Hussey

“It’s been really hard to make the car. We didn’t have a plan (instructions) and we weren’t allowed to use scissors or sticky tape. Even though it’s been hard, it’s been a fun challenge. We have failed a lot but we know failing is good because you can learn from your mistakes and you also just have to move on when you do fail otherwise you won’t be able to make anything.” Sofia Stocco
