Five Minutes with Dani Spark, Head Of Home Economics

Why did you become a teacher?

I cannot tell you why I wanted to become a teacher I just know that I always wanted to be a teacher. I did work experience as a PE Teacher when I was at school.

What part of the school year is the most exciting for you?

It is around Week 8/9 of each term. Not because the holidays are coming (although that part of the year is enjoyable!) but because it is around this time that the longer term tasks the girls have been working on are realised and it is great to see the girls so pleased with what they have produced.

What other schools have your taught at?

Girrawheen SHS, Kewdale SHS, Hamilton SHS and Mercedes College

If you could choose another job what would it be?

20 years ago I would have said a professional athlete but now I would say a food critic!

What is something not many people know about you?

Lots of the students associate me with netball but what they may not know is that I did not grow up playing netball – I actually was a diver as a teen/young adult and only started playing netball much later in life.

What is your favourite recipe?

Brioche Bread and Butter Pudding

Favourite quote?

If I lead, follow me, if I stop, push me, and if I fall behind, inspire me. I am not sure of the author of this quote but it is something I heard many years ago and it has always struck a chord with me.
