From Netherlands to SMC: Catch Up With Elissa Glorie

When you are asked to think of a social innovator, who comes to mind first?

For us, it is Elissa Glorie (Class of 2011), who recently paid a visit to the College, to talk about all that she has accomplished since graduating!

Elissa is the founder of Moja, an ethical underwear brand established in 2020.

After a trip to Tanzania, Elissa realised that many children didn’t have the financial means to buy underwear and sanitary pads, which ultimately contributes to an increased risk of disease and infection, as well as low school attendance rates.

Elissa started Moja to not only improve hygiene and education but also to create a business model that improved the livelihoods of local people.

In addition to Moja, Elissa also works as an Impact Strategy Consultant, collaborating with organisations to grow their impact with creative concepts, good stories, and thoughtful strategies!

Elissa’s visit to the College was short and sweet, but she sure made the most of her time!

A Q&A was filmed, around the topics of entrepreneurship and innovation, which will be shown to students in our Explore8 and Future10 programs.

The Community Relations Department also sat down with Elissa for a tell-all interview and shot some photos for her feature in this year’s Catherine magazine!

She even got to have a chat with some of her favourite teachers, including Joanne Priest, as well as Principal, Jennifer Oaten and Director of Community Relations, Margo Bastow.

Keep your eyes peeled for the 2022 edition of Catherine magazine, where we will be diving deeper into Elissa’s business venture and work as an Impact Strategy Consultant.

Thank you for your time, Elissa and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

Safe travels across the globe back to the Netherlands!
