From The Head of Boarding: Week 3, Term 1, 2021

Head of Boarding

Well, the start of the year did not go completely as planned! Now our year has begun our Boarding community is once again filled with life, love, and laughter. Our ‘big sisters’ and buddies have been incredible in the support, time and care they have given to their new ‘little sisters’ and new friends.

Boarding Coordinators

Aimee Deane and Chris Kain, are the boarding coordinators who manage our boarding community while the girls are in residence. This role allows for more support and flexibility for boarding supervisors and more support and care for our boarders. An example of this was on Friday afternoon, Tiarne was able to leave Sylvester House to run games on the oval for the Year 7s and their buddies and ‘big sisters’ while Aimee supervised in Sylvester House. They have made a great start in their roles, organising a great recreation program and supporting our staff and boarders so very well. They can be contacted at [email protected]

Academic Care in Boarding

Colleen McManus is the Academic Care Coordinator in Boarding this year. Colleen is an English teacher who taught at Santa Maria for many years. She is following the academic care program set up by Vanessa last year. Colleen can be contacted at [email protected]

The study tutors for Years 7 – 9 are listed below and are supported in their role by Colleen.

The ATAR students in Boarding just need to communicate with Colleen, as they did with Vanessa, letting them know when they need extra support and in what course and Colleen will do all she can to provide this support. Colleen also tracks the assessment workloads of all year groups and will call in staff to support our girls as she sees and hears of the need. We are fortunate to have an experienced teacher leading our academic care in Boarding.

What is happening where you live?

I would love to come to visit you where you live. If there is a big event happening where you live please let me know and I will do what I can to get there. I would also love to come your way one weekend and join you and past and future members of our Boarding community for lunch or dinner at your local.

I will be at the Wagin Woolarama on 5 – 6 March 2021.

If you are at the Woolarama pop past for a chat or meet me at the Wine Baa on Friday from 4.30 pm for a catch-up. See you in Wagin!
