From the President – May 2026
Dear fellow Alumni
The year is passing rapidly, and the much-needed rain heralds the approach of winter.
I note the email received this week, which advises of the SMC Winter Appeal. I encourage you to please consider the needs of those who are struggling to afford essentials during winter. Donations, as outlined, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
As prefaced in my April report, our Old Girls’ Association Committee met on 13 April. I can now inform you that we have begun planning an inaugural alumni event with Aquinas College later this year, likely in September. Confirmation of the date and other details will be provided in due course. We hope there will be a good response to this event. Secondly, we are planning to hold another of our well-established movie nights in late July at the Windsor Theatre in Nedlands. This is a relaxing event where you can socialise over a wine from the bar, hopefully win a raffle prize, and enjoy a movie. So why not come along?
Further to the above, in August, Santa Maria College will host the Pleiades Meeting at the new Cultural Centre. In astronomy, “Pleiades” is a star constellation known as The Seven Sisters, however in our context, the Pleiades Alumni Network is a gathering of alumni representatives from independent girls’ schools in Perth. The meeting location is rotated among the schools involved. It provides an opportunity to share ideas and to learn from each other. We are yet to confirm the theme, which is the responsibility of SMC this year; however, as you may imagine, preparation for this key alumni event will keep our committee occupied, helping Community Relations staff to showcase our school.
That’s all from me for this month, so do take care until next time.
Warm regards
Mary Heavens | President, Old Girls’ Association
