Girls4Girls Day Brought Pink, Purpose and Plenty of Heart
The College was a sea of pink, red and white on Thursday 25 June as students came together for our annual Girls4Girls Day. Led by our Year 12 Student Leadership Council, with support from the Student Representative Council across Years 7 to 11, the day was full of colour, laughter and community spirit, but its purpose ran much deeper than free dress and sweet treats.
Girls4Girls Day is one of those occasions that captures something important about life at Santa Maria. It is joyful, student led and full of energy, but it is also grounded in a clear sense of justice and service. It gave our students the chance to stand behind girls beyond our own gates and support access to education for young women in Papua New Guinea through Mercy Works.
This year’s theme was, Pink for Possibilities, Pink for Progress, Pink for Power. Students embraced pink free dress with enthusiasm, bringing gold coin donations and uniting in solidarity for something meaningful. Across the day, the College felt bright and generous.
A Day Full of Action and Generosity
At recess, the SRC girls hosted a colourful bake sale stacked high with delicious treats baked at home. The array of sweets was a huge success as many showed up.
Lunchtime kept the energy going with a classic sausage sizzle run by our Student Leadership Council and Year 11 Student Representative Council. It was heartwarming to see so many girls stepping up to cook, serve and connect, showing real initiative and teamwork.
The excitement continued on the oval with the much-anticipated staff vs students End Zone match. With plenty of cheering from the sidelines and a great sense of fun from everyone involved, it was one of those moments that brought the whole community together.
Women Supporting Women
Of course, Girls4Girls Day was about much more than pink outfits and friendly competition. Every contribution raised on the day will support Mercy Works programs in Papua New Guinea, where the organisation works with children, women and families to build safer, more stable lives. Mercy Works responds to both immediate need and long term opportunity, from helping children move from the streets into education to supporting communities to build livelihoods and improve daily living conditions.
Our students were not just raising funds, they were standing with girls and women whose access to education, safety and opportunity cannot be taken for granted. It was a reminder that when girls support girls, the impact reaches far beyond our own community.
