Golden Girls’ Luncheon 2025 – Celebrating Lifelong Friendship

There was a special kind of sunshine over the Swan River on Saturday as 130 of our past students returned to the College for the annual Golden Girls’ Luncheon, a special celebration for those who graduated 50 years ago or more.

Held in the Community Room, with its stunning views, the event was filled with laughter, reminiscing and heartfelt reconnection. The warm weather seemed to mirror the joy in the room as old friends reunited and shared stories of their school days.

This year, we were delighted to welcome the Class of 1975 for their very first Golden Girls’ Luncheon, joining alumni who left as far back as 1946.

Among the guests were two sets of sisters, the Stewart sisters (Yvonne Hickling, Rita Charters and Fiona Stewart) and four of the five Harrington sisters (Clare Harrington, Helen Iddon, Maureen Broadhurst and Joan Gregan), proving that the bonds of sisterhood, both familial and forged through Santa Maria, are as strong as ever.

As always, the luncheon was a beautiful reflection of our Mercy value of Hospitality, welcoming all with warmth and care, and a reminder of the lifelong connections that begin here at the College. The stories shared by our Golden Girls spoke of courage, compassion and a deep love for their time at Santa Maria, values they have carried into every chapter of their lives.

From animated conversations over lunch to the clinking of glasses in celebration, it was clear that this tradition continues to hold a special place in the hearts of our alumni community.

As the afternoon drew to a close, guests left with smiles, hugs and a renewed sense of belonging, a testament to the enduring power of friendship and shared history.

We look forward to welcoming next year’s new Golden Girls, the Class of 1976, to join this wonderful tradition of connection and celebration.
