Harmony Day – Celebrating What Connects Us

Santa Maria College is a vibrant sea of orange as we come together to celebrate Harmony Day today – a national day that promotes inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone.

What is Harmony Day?

Held annually on 21 March, Harmony Day is part of Harmony Week, a celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s a time to recognise that everyone belongs, no matter their background, language or beliefs. At Santa Maria, we’re proud of the rich diversity within our school and the strength it brings to our community.

Why orange?

The colour orange was chosen to represent Harmony Day as it symbolises communication, encouragement, and mutual respect. By wearing orange today, our students and staff are showing their support for a more inclusive and connected Australia—and celebrating the many cultures and stories that make up our College.

What’s happening at the College?

The students from our Celebrating People and Diversity group have led the way in organising a range of thoughtful activities for their peers. These activities have been discussed in Homeroom this morning to encourage reflection and participation throughout the day.

Hair Ribbons for Harmony

As students arrived this morning, they were invited to collect and wear an orange ribbon. These ribbons represent the many cultures, stories and experiences woven together to form our vibrant school community.

Mark Your Origins

Outside the Café, there’s a special display inviting students and staff to mark their cultural origins on a shared map. It’s a visual celebration of the diversity that exists within our College and a reminder of the connections that bring us all together.

It’s wonderful to see our school community embracing Harmony Day with such enthusiasm. The sea of orange serves as a powerful symbol of unity, diversity and respect – values we live every day at Santa Maria College.

Happy Harmony Day!
