Highlights from Our Photography Competition
Santa Maria College recently held its annual Photography Competition as one of the highlights of Technology & Commerce Day. This exciting event invited students from Years 7 to 12 to showcase their photographic talents, with an impressive 113 entries submitted across three distinct categories. Each student had the opportunity to submit up to two photos per category, resulting in a diverse and colourful array of images.
A Showcase of Talent
The competition was fierce, with students capturing everything from family and pet portraits to stunning landscapes and impactful black and white images. The standard of photography was truly outstanding, making it a challenge for the judges to select the winners.
The categories for the competition were as follows:
Portrait: The focus had to be a living subject, close enough to discern expression.
Landscape: The photograph needed to capture the environment, whether natural or built, with the horizon visible.
Black and White: This category was open to any subject, provided a black and white filter was applied and adjusted.
Exhibition in the Plaza
The finalist photos were professionally printed and displayed in the Plaza during Technology Day, allowing the school community to admire the creative work of their peers. This display added a vibrant touch to the day’s festivities, celebrating the students’ achievements in a tangible way.
Announcing the Winners
Our Principal, Jennifer Oaten, chose the winners and runners-up in each category, which were announced during Technology Day.

The Photography Competition not only highlighted the incredible talent within Santa Maria College but also encouraged students to explore and develop their creative skills. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in the arts, enhance their technical abilities, and gain confidence in their work.
Congratulations to all the participants for their fantastic efforts. We look forward to seeing even more creativity and innovation in next year’s competition!
