Over the next few weeks, we have two exciting Outdoor Education Camps coming up.
The Year 12 class will be away on their Surf Expedition from Wednesday 10 – Sunday 14 April. The girls will be travelling to the Margaret River region. The girls will be participating in surf sessions for five hours a day, on three days of the camp. While on the trip, the students will be completing a number of practical and written tasks for their General Outdoor Education Course and a minimal impact assessment for their Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation.
The Year 11 class will be away from the Sunday 28 April – Friday 3 May on their Shark Bay Sea Trek Expedition. They will be travelling approximately 12 hours to Denham, then sailing the high seas for four days in the beautiful Shark Bay and exploring secret beach locations where they will set up camp each night. While on the trip, the class will be completing four sailing and boating units from their Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation and will also complete a number of practical and written tasks for their General OED Course.
We asked Year 12 student Holly and Year 11 student Amelia about the upcoming expeditions.

What is your favourite activity?
My favourite activity in Outdoor Ed is roping, belaying and climbing on the wall and on natural surfaces.
Which expedition are you going on?
I’m going on the Surfing Expedition.
What are you most looking forward to on the upcoming expedition?
I’m most looking forward to being in the ocean, surfing and developing stronger friendships with my Outdoor Ed class.
What do you think you’ll be challenged by?
I think having a huge and busy schedule during the day will be a challenge as I might be exhausted by the end of the camp.
Holly Bradford, Year 12
What do you like most about Outdoor Ed?
I love having the opportunity to challenge myself both mentally and physically and to step out of my comfort zone. It is a rewarding experience and allows me to develop resilience which I can incorporate into everyday situations.
What is your favourite activity?
My favourite activities in Outdoor Education are our water-related activities such as sailing, snorkelling, canoeing and stand-up paddle boarding. I am looking forward to Year 12 where we are given the opportunity to learn how to surf.
Which expedition are you going on?
The sea trek to Shark Bay.
What are you most looking forward to on the upcoming expedition?
I am most looking forward to the full days sailing and the amazing things I will get the chance to experience. I am also looking forward to building closer relationships with my peers and developing my sailing skills.
What do you think you’ll be challenged by?
I think I will be challenged most by the intensity of it since we will have very full-on days. I believe that I will be able to overcome this though and will find it an enjoyable experience that I will be able to look back on in years to come.
