Holy Week and Easter – A Time of Renewal and Hope

As Holy Week unfolds, we are invited into one of the most reflective moments of the Church year; a time to walk closely with Jesus in His final days and to prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter.

Today, students and staff gathered for our Lenten Mass, a prayerful and moving celebration led by our Student Ministry Team that brought our community together in faith and reflection.

A highlight of the Mass was the powerful contribution of our Year 10 Dance students. Through their beautifully choreographed performances, the dancers explored themes of weight, protection and growth. Their movement offered a creative and deeply reflective expression of the Lenten journey that resonated strongly with all who gathered.

Throughout the liturgy, we were reminded of the profound love Christ showed through His sacrifice on the cross. Lent calls us to reflection, repentance and renewal. It is a time to turn back to God and to one another with open hearts. As we journey through Holy Week, we are invited to reflect not only on Christ’s suffering, but also on His compassion and unwavering commitment to justice and love.

This call to justice is central to life at Santa Maria College. As a Mercy community, we are challenged to promote equity, nurture respectful relationships and care for our common home. The generosity shown through our support of Project Compassion is a powerful example of this mission in action, reminding us that our faith is lived out through service to others.

As we journey through Holy Week and look toward Easter, we are reminded that the sorrow of Good Friday gives way to the hope of the Resurrection. Easter is a celebration of new life and a promise that renewal is always possible.

May the spirit of Holy Week and the joy of Easter inspire our community to continue growing in faith, living with compassion, and being people of hope and action in the world.
