Home to Mother
- June 18, 2020
The novel ‘Home to Mother’ by Doris Pilkington, is a children’s version of ‘The Rabbit-Proof Fence’. Year 6 girls have been reading the book in class. After completing the book, the girls retold the story in the form of a ballad.
The girls had to consider the structure of a ballad, which includes a particular number of verses and beats, as well as including poetic devices such as alliteration, personification, similes and metaphors. The girls each chose two verses from their own poem to read aloud in the video above.
Lenna Rhodes said, “I liked how I was able to share my emotions about the story through my poem.”Â
Neisha Doutch said, “I enjoyed reading the story and being creative to express it in my own way.”Â
