How Girls4Girls Day Celebrated Fun, Love & Girl Power

The College was a sea of pink, red and white as our students came together for our annual Girls4Girls Day today – and what a day it was! Organised by our Year 12 Student Leadership Council (SLC), with the support of the Student Representative Council (SRC) across Years 7–11, the day was bursting with colour, laughter and community spirit.
A Day Led by Girls, For Girls
From the early hours, the excitement was clear. Girls4Girls Day is all about celebrating the incredible strength and opportunity we have as young women at Santa Maria, while recognising that not every girl around the world has the same. This year’s colour theme, chosen by our SLC and SRC, was pink, red and white: a nod to fun, love and girl power.

Sweet Treats & Strong Women
At recess, the SRC girls hosted a colourful bake sale stacked high with delicious treats baked at home. The smell of cupcakes and cookies drifted across campus as students gathered to share in the goodies, all for a good cause.
Lunchtime kept the energy going with a classic sausage sizzle run by our SLC and Year 11 SRC. It was heartwarming to see so many girls stepping up to cook, serve and connect, showing real initiative and teamwork. Also during lunch was the much anticipated staff vs students dodgeball game, with both teams coming away happy with the final result of a draw.
Of course, Girls4Girls Day wouldn’t be complete without a bit of friendly competition. The whole school roared with laughter during the much-anticipated dodgeball match: students vs our brave female staff! It was a powerful reminder that strong women can have fun, lift each other up and be role models, both in and out of the classroom.

Raising Awareness & Gratitude
Beyond the bright colours and tasty treats, the day had a deeper purpose: to raise awareness and gratitude. We are so fortunate to have the opportunities we do as young women, and days like this remind us to stand up for girls and women everywhere.
As Head Girl Annika put it, “Girls4Girls Day is a day that everyone remembers, not just because of the bright colours and the activities, but because of the community that is created. I believe it’s an important day because of the awareness it raises around how fortunate we are as young women, to be privileged enough to have an amazing education but more than that, opportunities to grow, be interested and be a part of a community.”
While a specific charity is yet to be finalised, all funds from the bake sale and sausage sizzle and free (pink, red or white) dress will go towards supporting women in need.

A Community That Cares
Events like Girls4Girls Day truly bring our Mercy values to life: Compassion, Service and Hospitality. They also highlight the attributes our girls show every day – collaboration, respect, confidence and initiative. Most importantly, they create a sense of belonging that our students remember long after the icing sugar has settled.
To our SLC, SRC, staff and every student who joined in – thank you for making Girls4Girls Day another colourful, meaningful and empowering moment at Santa Maria College.
