Infinity Awards – Santa Maria Highly Commended

The Infinity Awards acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding achievements of Western Australians working towards a better waste future through improved waste practices and innovative waste solutions.

Santa Maria College was nominated for an Infinity Awards in the category of Waste Wise School of the Year. Last night, Santa Maria Teachers Hannah Fay and Amber Price attended the Awards Ceremony at The Westin Grand Ballroom on behalf of the College, the Eco Sisters and Junior Sprouts.

Santa Maria College was awarded second with a Highly Commended in the category. Stephen Dawson, Minister for the Environment, was very impressed with the work of the Eco Sisters, particularly the changes in the College café making it almost plastic-free, and the school’s affiliations with sustainable companies such as GreenBatch.

After a written nomination saw Santa Maria College announced as finalists in October, Hannah Fay attended an interview where the importance of educating students was the focus of the presentation. The winner for the schools’ category was Hillcrest Primary School.

We are thrilled with this outcome, particularly as this year saw a record number of nominations for the Infinity Awards. The Eco Sisters staff are looking forward to continuing with the Eco Sisters initiatives to uphold and add to these positive environmental changes.
