Inspire 2024 – A Celebration of Creativity and Vision
This year’s Inspire exhibition and fashion parade once again highlighted the talents of our students. Inspire showcased our students’ creativity in new and reimagined ways.
Year 11 student Margaux Parsons, in her role as Visual Arts Captain for 2025, welcomed guests to this event. She set the stage for an evening that celebrated not just art but the creativity, imagination, dedication, and originality of our students across many disciplines.
A Showcase of Innovation Across Learning Areas
Inspire 2024 took a bold approach, celebrating artistic achievements across an array of learning areas. This year’s event showcased work from Visual Art, Media, English, HASS, Fashion, Food, Technology, Music, Drama, Dance, and STENgineers. Students poured their passion into every piece, embodying the creative spirit of our College. Inspire was a powerful reminder of how creativity shapes education, with students pushing boundaries and sharing fresh perspectives.
An Impressive Exhibition
The Mercy Gallery lit up with an impressive exhibition of student artwork from Years 7 to 11. A rich variety of creativity, skill, and innovation across Art and Design disciplines were on display.
The Year 10 Design students’ architectural ceramics was a series of sculptural forms inspired by the dynamic lines and unique structures of modern and classical architecture. A delightful display from Year 9 Art students added a touch of whimsy to the gallery. Their creative chicken series showcased an imaginative flock of sculpted and painted birds, each with distinct personalities, colours, and postures, ‘roosting’ together in a lively corner.Â
The gallery also features selected works from our Year 11 Art & Design General and ATAR students, who have engaged in more advanced studies. Their pieces explore complex themes and advanced techniques, offering viewers a deeper look into the students’ evolving artistic voices.Â
The exhibition fills the gallery with colour, light, and creative expression, offering a vibrant snapshot of the skills, passions, and artistic curiosity that define our art and design students.
Highlights from the Fashion Parade
The fashion parade was a wonderful display of talent, with students from each year group presenting creations that beautifully combined skill, style, and storytelling. Year 10 Design students transformed street art into bold, wearable statements, inspired by the works of Louis Vuitton and graffiti artists. Year 10 Fashion students showcased individually designed quilts, reflecting unique creativity, precision, and patience. Adding to the energy, Year 9 Fashion students brought summer vibes to the runway with their breezy, beach-inspired dresses.
Meanwhile, Year 8 Make & Create students crafted playful handbags inspired by Perth designer Poppy Lissiman. They blended AI-generated images with hand-painting techniques to produce vibrant, embellished pieces full of personality.
Year 9 Design students lit up the stage with sparkling tutus, incorporating reflective materials and dramatic lighting to create a theatrical experience. Year 11 Art & Design students paid tribute to Frida Kahlo and Mexico’s vibrant ‘Day of the Dead’ festival, with intricate jewellery, flower crowns, and textiles that captured Kahlo’s iconic style. Finally, Year 11 Materials Design students took the audience back to the ’60s, recreating the era’s distinctive charm.
Bringing Visions to Life
Inspire 2024 was a collective celebration of the creative journey. Guests witnessed the results of countless hours, ideas, and passion across many disciplines, brought to life by the dedication of our students. This event celebrates their ability to think critically, innovate, and express themselves through various art forms. Inspire 2024, saw a new era of artistic achievement, encouraging students to share their talents and perspectives.
We look forward to future events that unite our community in appreciation of creativity in all its forms, showcasing the incredible achievements of our students.
