International Women’s Day From Head Girl Isabella

International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate the strength and achievements of women while reflecting on ongoing challenges. The theme for 2024 is Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress, addressing the economic disempowerment of women, and inspiring inclusion.

During yesterday’s Assembly, Head Girl Isabella Morrison delivered the following speech addressing the importance of empowering women and promoting inclusion.

International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and achievements of women throughout history and in our lives today. It is a day to acknowledge the progress we’ve made in breaking down barriers and reflect on the challenges that persist and the work that lies ahead. The theme of International Women’s Day 2024 is ‘Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress’. This goal is one of the United Nations’ global sustainable development goals for 2030, with the campaign theme being ‘Inspire Inclusion’.

As we gather here today, surrounded by our student body, I want to emphasise the importance of empowering young women in our community. Each one of us has dreams, aspirations, and talents that can contribute to making our world a better place. As we celebrate this day, let us commit ourselves to fostering an inclusive environment where diversity is not just tolerated but embraced, where the talents and perspectives of women are valued and respected, and where every student feels empowered to pursue their passions.

This year, as the Student Leadership Council (SLC), our goal is to foster and promote an inclusive school environment in the Year of Hospitality. We have created the tagline and our motto of ‘Together we are more in 2024’, focusing on becoming a more inclusive school environment. When we work together, support each other, and include each other, together we can be more in 2024.

In the Year of Hospitality, the SLC is striving to improve relationships between the year groups. Through the celebrations of Galantines Day, Purple Bra Day, and Girsl4Girls Day we aim to break down any barriers between students and create an environment where every student is valued and diversity and inclusion are promoted. Today is a significant day for all women across the globe as International Women’s Day is celebrated.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, our Student Executive discuss empowering young women, driving change, and promoting equity and inclusion in the video above.

Happy International Women’s Day!
