Introducing Our 2026 Student Leaders
We are delighted to announce the 2026 Student Council at Santa Maria College! These remarkable young women were officially commissioned in a special ceremony this week, surrounded by their families, friends, staff, and peers.
This ceremony marked the commissioning of both the Year 12 Student Leadership Council and the Student Representative Council, which includes students from Year 6 and Years 8 – 11. The Year 7 leaders will be elected and commissioned in Term 1, 2026.
Act of Commitment
During the ceremony, each student took part in an Act of Commitment, pledging to embody the College values of Hospitality, Compassion, Justice, Service, and Excellence. They promised to lead with integrity, support and uplift others, and create a culture of kindness, respect, and inclusion within our community.
Principal Jennifer Oaten shared these inspiring words during the ceremony:
“As Principal of the College for the past eight years, I believe that leadership is about staying true to our Mercy values and what we value as individuals. As a leader at Santa Maria, Hospitality, Compassion, Justice, Service, and Excellence are values that should be central to your decisions and actions. Leadership also takes courage; to speak in front of peers, to speak up when others remain silent or when choosing what is right over what is easy. I hope you will lead with values and show courage.”
