It’s A Wrap: Music Camp
This year’s music camp was highly anticipated after the cancellation of 2020’s camp due to COVID-19. 80 girls and 4 camp Mums set off to the Ern Halliday Camp in Hillary’s, all beaming with excitement and ready for some musical challenges.
The camp ran from Thursday to Sunday and was an ensemble and rehearsal-based camp, showcasing the String Orchestra, Concert Band and the Guitar Ensemble, along with chorales from Years 7-12. We had an excellent selection of songs to play with, from Disney to Imagine Dragons and to Hanson, challenging students to ace each piece.
In between rehearsals, the camp had great facilities for each year group to come together, particularly a large field and volleyball net that prompted some very close competitions and some pumping tunes. It became a really great opportunity to get to know each of the girls in the different year groups. We came to find that each of us always had something interesting to share and it allowed for new members of the Music Department to be immersed in the encouraging culture.
After a long day of rehearsals, highlights of the camping experience were the nighttime activities that brought everyone together. For Thursday night, the camp gathered to watch the Disney film Enchanted for some musical fun and a lot of lollies. On the Friday night was the famous quiz night, where the teams of girls in 7-12 battled it out with general and music knowledge, doing whatever it takes for the bonus points, including dance battles and musical chairs! And on Saturday night was the fan favourite Talent Night where, after a lot of encouragement, girls volunteered to show their special skills. We had some wicked singing, a few epic dances, the classic Mum, Year 11 & Year 12 skit, some stand-up comedy, some camping hacks, and a whole lot of fun.
The camp sadly concluded on Sunday morning with a concert that family and friends attended, showcasing all our hard work from over the weekend. We said thank you to the amazing staff and camp Mums, who all put tremendous effort and time into this camp by giving up their weekend to help and sing with us. It did not go unnoticed. All in all, music camp continued to be a great experience loaded with fun and a lot of girls cannot wait for next year!
