Junior School Dip Their Toes Into IGSSA Swimming

Our Years 5 and 6 students took to the pool this week on Tuesday 14 March, and Thursday 16 March, for the JIGSSA Swimming Carnival.

Santa Maria hosted Year 5 students from Perth College, Penrhos College and Methodist Ladies College on Tuesday for a day of exciting events. The Year 6s had their turn on Thursday and visited St Hilda’s for their carnival.

All our junior school girls participated in the carnival, taking part in events from breaststroke to the boogie board relay. For our Year 5s, this was their first chance to represent the College at an interschool event in the Santa Maria red and white, and what a fantastic job they did!

There was a buzz around the College swimming pool on Tuesday as students encouraged their peers and cheered for their school. Following the carnival, the girls enjoyed a picnic lunch at the Grotto, where they could socialise and form bonds with their classmates that we are sure will last for years to come.

A group of Years 5 and 6 students will be chosen to represent the College at HBF Stadium as part of a selected squad for the Twilight Swimming Carnival, where all JIGSSA schools come together to compete for the 2023 Champion School in swimming.

Our Years 5 and 6 students should be extremely proud of their efforts, willingness to participate, and how they represented the College.
