Kim Christie – Striding Towards Excellence

The Santa Maria College community is filled with dedicated professionals who bring more than just expertise to their roles. They bring passion, purpose, and a commitment to personal growth. One such staff member is Kim Christie, whose recent endurance achievements have inspired many across the College.

A Journey of Dedication and Leadership

Kim has worked at the College for 16 years, beginning in 2009. Over this time, she has held several roles within the Physical Education Department, including Head of Department, Head of Sport, and Years 5 and 6 Sport Coordinator.

She now supports students through her work in the Enrichment Department, where she enjoys the chance to make a meaningful difference in students’ learning journeys.

“It is incredibly rewarding to build strong relationships, understand students’ individual needs, and see their confidence and skills grow over time,” Kim said.

Tackling Personal Challenges Beyond the Classroom

Earlier this year, Kim completed the Busselton Jetty Swim and more recently took on the Margaret River Ultra Marathon as part of a five-member all-female team. The event involved 80 kilometres of rugged trail running along the stunning Cape to Cape coastline.

“I decided to do the Margaret River Ultra Marathon because I wanted to challenge myself both physically and mentally,” Kim said. “Margaret River is a special place to me, and I could not think of a better setting to do this.”

Training, Teamwork and Triumph

Preparing for the event took months of early mornings, long training runs and balancing family and work commitments. Despite setbacks, including a teammate’s broken leg, Kim and her team remained focused and determined. They all crossed the finish line together.

A Role Model in Action

Kim’s story reflects a quiet determination and a pursuit of excellence that inspires those around her. Her resilience and positive spirit remind us that our community is full of role models, each leading by example, both in and beyond the classroom.
