Meet the Newest Members of our Wellbeing Team
When parents know the people caring for their daughters, it builds confidence, connection, and trust. This year, we are pleased to welcome two new members to our wellbeing team, College Psychologist Katrina Campbell-Sloan and College Counsellor Milly Birchmore.
Both women bring warmth, experience, and a genuine commitment to helping young people feel safe, supported, and understood. Just as importantly, they understand how vital it is for students to feel welcomed and comfortable from the moment they walk through the door.
Meet Katrina
Katrina joins Santa Maria as a College Psychologist with a strong interest in adolescent psychology and a deep commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people.
At the heart of Katrina’s work is a belief that every young person deserves to feel heard, valued, and empowered to navigate life’s challenges. She brings genuine care and curiosity to every interaction, creating a safe, supportive space where students feel understood. Katrina works collaboratively with students to build insight, confidence, and a sense of self-efficacy, with a warm, relational approach grounded in evidence-based practice, assessment and consultation.
Her background is both diverse and creative. Alongside her Master’s in Psychology, Katrina holds Bachelor’s Degrees and has extensive experience in acting and the visual arts, which inform her therapeutic style and connection with young people. As a voice artist, she also works as a Sessional Voice Teacher at John Curtin College of the Arts, supporting gifted and talented students and young people experiencing performance anxiety.
Prior to Santa Maria, Katrina worked with adolescents at Perth Children’s Hospital and Bentley Health Service, facilitating creative therapeutic interventions that support emotional expression and resilience. These experiences continue to shape her calm, engaging, and student-centred approach.
Outside of work, she says:
“When I’m not at work, you’ll usually find me planning my next travel adventure with my husband and two children, searching for a new outfit for our rescue kitten (yes, really!), or enjoying a beachside sauna with friends.”
Meet Milly
Milly joins the College as Counsellor and brings with her a strong background in youth mental health. She holds a Bachelor of Behavioural Science, a Master of Counselling, and is PACFA registered. Before coming to Santa Maria, Milly worked as a Youth Counsellor and Postvention Lead in the not-for-profit sector, supporting young people experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns.
Through this work, she developed experience across many areas of youth mental health, including interpersonal difficulties, anxiety, depression, suicide prevention and postvention, school refusal, and risk management. She has also delivered and co-developed mental health education programs in schools, helping young people build emotional resilience and coping skills.
What stands out most about Milly is the way she approaches her work. She is committed to creating a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where students feel comfortable being themselves. Her style is warm, collaborative, and person-centred, drawing on integrated evidence-based therapies to support each student in the way that suits them best.
Outside of work, Milly “enjoys spending time with friends and family, heading to the beach, reading, and painting.”
Supporting Students With Care
An important part of student support at Santa Maria is making sure access to wellbeing services is available for everyone. Students are able to access a series of counselling sessions across the year, typically between four and six sessions, which allows all girls to benefit from the support and care available through the College.
Katrina and Milly each bring their own strengths, experiences, and personality to Santa Maria’s wellbeing team, but they share something important. Both are deeply invested in supporting the students at Santa Maria. They care about helping the girls feel safe and supported, and both understand that when a student feels safe, known, and comfortable, meaningful support begins.
