Mental Health Fitness in May
We often take time out of our busy schedules to focus on our physical health. A walk or visit to the gym, or the decision to choose a salad for lunch and not to eat that extra biscuit with our coffee! But how often do we carve out time in our day to be proactive with our mental health? In the same way that physical health doesn’t just happen, our mental health can also benefit from some deliberate practice.
Just like exercising regularly for our physical health, there is much research and evidence to support the idea that we can do a little ‘training’ to improve our mental health. The good news is that unlike a visit to the gym, it need only take a couple of minutes.
Throughout the month of May, we will be addressing four key ‘Mental Health Fitness’ topics to help improve mental health. These topics are Gratitude, Mindfulness, Meaning & Purpose, and Social Connections. With the assistance of the Mental Health Ambassadors, led by our Wellbeing Captain Karin Boulton, we will be focusing on simple strategies and activities the girls can participate in. We will be inviting all students to join in.
The focus topics will be introduced each week in Homeroom and the girls will be encouraged to participate in a range of small activities. Our College Psychologist Dr Kimberlee Burrows will also share some tips and strategies with parents via social media each week to help support their daughters.
