Introducing Michelle, Our New Music Assistant

In the latest of our staff profiles, we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Hunt, the newest member of the Music Department.

What is your role at Santa Maria?

Music Administrator

What attracted you to this role?

I have worked at other schools in both Music and Arts administration, and I was looking for a new challenge. The fantastic reputation of Santa Maria College made me apply for the role. After my first interview and meeting Paul and Jess, I was very excited about the chance to be part of a passionate and dedicated team.

What is your background?

My recent role was at All Saints College as their Music Administrator and before that I was at Corpus Christi College as the Arts Administrator.  I was at Corpus for five and a half years and was the only administrative support for all the Arts – Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts. It was a fantastic role, super busy, but a role I really enjoyed. Before starting at Corpus, I worked in the Oil & Gas Industry for 16 years. I left needing a change of direction and wanting to find what I loved, so I took a six-week contract at my son’s school, Corpus, and was there for another five years. I found what I loved and that was working with kids who love the Arts. It is a joy to come to work every day to see and hear them doing what they love.

What type of music do you enjoy?

There is always music playing in our home. With a 21 and 16-year-old son, I have to listen to everything from Kid Laroi to AC/DC and anything in between. My husband used to be a lead singer in a heavy metal band, so I get a lot of that as well.  I love most types of music… or I have got used to everything.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I am a footy mum, with both of our boys playing on Saturdays and Sundays, so our weekends are spent supporting them. We love finding new restaurants and cafes to enjoy with our friends. I also run a small business selling Scentsy products and I help my mum run her small catering business. We live a very busy life, but I love it. If there is any spare time, I love reading, cooking, and gardening or just hanging out with our dog Boston.
