Mini Meet Magic – Building Skills, Confidence and Carnival Spirit
Last week’s Mini Meet saw our students sprint, jump and throw their way through a jam-packed day of athletics events, despite some less-than-sunny skies! This pre-carnival tradition is about helping our younger students build confidence, refine their skills, and have a go in a supportive, fun environment.
So why do we hold the Mini Meet?
- It helps us place students in the right divisions for the upcoming Interhouse Athletics Carnival.
- It gives us more time in Physical Education lessons to focus on skill development, without the pressure of recording results on the spot.
- It allows students to develop technique and resilience, key ingredients for success both on and off the field.

Rather than chasing ribbons, students earn gold, silver or bronze stickers based on performance standards. These achievements are celebrated with personalised cards, often treasured long after the final event.
On the day, students took part in:
- Shot Put
- Turbo Javelin
- Discus
- Long Jump
- 90m Sprint

We were so proud of the determination and positivity on display. Despite the drizzle, the girls kept their energy up, cheered each other on, and gave every event their all. That spirit of collaboration and perseverance is what makes Santa Maria events so special.
With the Athletics Carnival just around the corner, this cohort has well and truly warmed up. We can’t wait to see what they achieve!
