Musicians Showcase Their Talents

It’s been a busy week in the Music Department with two events showcasing the talents of our amazing musicians.

Showcase

The McDonald Building was transformed into a performance space that hosted all the choral and instrumental groups the College has to offer. The concert involved over 300 students and an audience of over 500 appreciative family and friends.

The guests enjoyed performances from each of the Year group choirs, the Symphonic Orchestra, three concert bands, two string orchestras, the Guitar Ensemble, Flute Choir, Soul Band, and Swing Band.

The students performed beautifully, and the stage was set for a fitting finale recognising the talents and commitment of our Year 12 graduating musicians. Music Captain, Clare Perrott lead from the front, performing in eight items including the Year 12 performance, which she also arranged and rehearsed.

Thanks to all the music students who performed on the night and the music tutors and support staff who worked so hard in preparation for this large event.

Year 12 Recital

Following on from our Showcase, on Wednesday night, the Year 12 Music class had their final performance recital. It was held in the intimate performing space of the main music room. Each of the girls performed solo items along with a group choral item, bookended by band performances. The students performed beautifully.

The recital was followed by a special supper for the girls and their parents in gratitude for the support they have given their daughters throughout their musical journey at the College.

As music teachers, we are so fortunate to teach the girls from as early as Year 5 in some cases. We witness the girls’ musical development and maturity along the way. Year 12 seems to arrive too quickly.

I would like to thank each of the girls for their contribution to the Music program as it is the class musicians who form the core of the co-curricular groups. Bright futures await them and I’m sure they will all keep music in their lives to some degree.

Thanks, girls and the best of luck for your exams and beyond.

What A Term! So Many Opportunities – Jennifer Oaten
