Navigating Life’s Challenges: Alternative Learning Days
In conjunction with camp, our Year 7s participated in the Alternative Learning Days (ALD), an extension of the Year 7 transition to high school program.
The Alternative Learning Days enlisted the expertise of numerous staff members, who generously contributed to the organisation and facilitation of sessions for the Year 7s. The girls greatly appreciated their efforts. Â
Students participated in friendship and cyber citizenship sessions and explored the College’s 2023 Mercy value of Excellence.
Following this, the girls engaged in various fun mindfulness activities, from meditation and yoga to drawing and musicianship games.
On the second day of the ALD, the girls workshopped concepts around positive mental health, gratitude, character strengths and solving conflicts. College psychologists Kimberlee Burrows and Di Kerr worked closely with the Year 7s to ensure they had the knowledge and tools to navigate these areas.
Students will be reminded of the lessons they’ve learned throughout the year and draw on the experiences of both camp and ALD during our Mercy Wellbeing Program. Both these programs are a large part of achieving the aim of Year 7 – I belong!
