New Head of ICT Jaysen is Leading the Way in Tech Innovation
We are thrilled to introduce Jaysen Sharma, our dynamic new Head of ICT. With a rich and varied career spanning industries, Jaysen brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to our team. His journey is one of adaptability, creativity, and a deep commitment to enhancing the educational experience at Santa Maria College.
Tell us a bit about your career, prior to joining Santa Maria College
I’ve bounced around different industries and companies, picking up skills and experiences along the way. It’s been a wild ride that’s taught me to think outside the box and tackle problems with a fresh perspective! I have worked in various fields such as the mining world of oil & gas and moved to the halls of academia in public education, various corporate organisations, and even the high seas of marine life. I even had a stint in London with an international marketing agency, where I got to rub shoulders with celebrities and experience some mind-blowing global events.
Having been in your role for three months now, what are you enjoying most about your job?
The last three months have been a rollercoaster! I’m convinced that Tim Stewart, Director of Corporate Services, was throwing curveballs just to test me. But I knocked them out of the park! And you know what made those crazy troubleshooting moments bearable? My awesome team and the positive vibes from everyone at Santa Maria College. The amazing staff here make coming to work a joy and the people I interact with! Pure positivity and good vibes all around!
What resources do you rely on to help you manage the IT infrastructure at the College?
Honestly, it’s a mix of everything! My trusty tech toolbox is packed with the usual suspects: monitoring tools that keep an eye on the network’s pulse, documentation that keeps me from pulling my hair out, and of course, the almighty Google when things get really weird. But the secret sauce? My amazing team. We brainstorm, troubleshoot, and celebrate victories together. That’s what keeps the IT ship sailing smoothly!
What is your vision for the future of technology integration at Santa Maria College?
It’s about building a tech foundation so solid, it’ll make Tony Stark jealous! This will give our amazing teachers the tools and freedom to transform their classrooms into something extraordinary. Imagine tech so intuitive, it’s like magic woven into the learning experience. Students teaming up like superheroes, teachers igniting curiosity like mad scientists, and the whole campus buzzing with the energy of a rock concert! We’re not just keeping up; we’re setting the stage for a future where learning is an adventure.
How do you stay updated with the latest advancements in technology and IT management?
I’m a bit of a tech news junkie! I follow a bunch of industry blogs and Youtubers, and I love diving into online forums and communities to see what other IT geeks are buzzing about. Of course, attending conferences and webinars is a great way to get the inside scoop and network with other passionate techies such as my peers and vendors. It’s all about staying curious and hungry for knowledge.
What is the best piece of technology you have ever purchased for personal use, and why?
Having a Roborock vacuum has been a game-changer for our busy family with three little ones. It tackles the constant need for clean floors – vacuuming and mopping – while also being a fun addition to our smart home setup. I love that I can use it as a roving security camera, or have it trigger my ambient smart lights around the house if someone walks past or AI to help locate a lost item (remote control or keys etc). It’s practical, it’s high-tech, and most importantly, it keeps my wife happy! A definite win-win.
With Jaysen at the helm of our ICT Department, Santa Maria College is poised for a thrilling future in technology integration. His vision of creating an intuitive, powerful tech infrastructure that empowers both teachers and students is exciting. As he continues to drive innovation, supported by his amazing team and cutting-edge tools, we are excited to see how Jaysen will transform our campus into a more vibrant, tech-savvy environment that inspires learning and creativity. Welcome aboard, Jaysen – here’s to many more months of collaboration, growth, and success!
