Girls Win Gold at Aussie Cheerleading Competition
Throughout the school year, the Santa Maria College cheerleading teams Gravity and Supernova have been training hard in the lead up to the annual Aussie Gold International Cheer and Dance Championships on the Gold Coast, Queensland. This competition was held over the Term 3 school holidays and took place at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. There were over 150 teams competed for the championship title of their division.
Our Gravity team competed in Senior Level 1 and had girls from Years 8, 9 & 10 compete, whilst our Supernova team competed in the Senior Level 2 rank and had girls from Years 7 to 12. Both teams competed against club teams and school teams. Most school teams trained once a week in the lead up to the competition whereas club teams trained at least twice a week.
Gravity and Supernova teams both accomplished wins in their levels. Their dedication and commitment to training paid off when Gravity won the title with the highest score in Senior Level 1 and Supernova won in Senior Level 2 achieving the second highest score of the whole competition. Well done to all of the competitors in the Gravity and Supernova teams for bringing home two massive wins.
In the following video, Year 10 student Chloe Mowday, who competed in both teams, tells us about the experience.
